The ISO Technical Committee on Common Names for Pesticides has provisionally approved three new active ingredient names. Bayer CropScience’s insecticide, flupyradifurone, is being developed under the code name, BYI02960, according to the Compendium of Pesticide Common Names (CPCN). Several US lawsuits have been filed against DuPont over alleged damage to trees caused by its new herbicide, Imprelis (aminocyclopyrachlor). An Ohio law firm, Neblett, Beard and Arsenault has filed a class action suit against DuPont on behalf of those who claim to have suffered extensive damage to their trees, lawns and gardens after the use of Imprelis. Bayer CropScience plans to introduce a new combination herbicide for use on small-grain cereals in the US in 2013. Currently named TCM 4-Way, the product combines three proven modes of action for the control of grasses and broadleaf weeds in spring and durum wheat, Bayer says. The European Commission has decided to suspend anti-dumping measures on imports of the herbicide, glyphosate, from China for nine months. The current anti-dumping duty of 29.9% was imposed in 2004 (Agrow No 458, p 9). United Phosphorus has won an interim suspension of the EU phase-out programme for the herbicide, napropamide, until the company's main lawsuit against the EU authorities is settled. The New Zealand Environmental Risk Management Authority (ERMA) has banned the herbicide, methylarsinic acid, and its sodium salt, MSMA. The Authority proposed the action earlier this year due to the persistency of arsenic, its potential to accumulate in the environment and its long-term impact on human health (Agrow No 562, p 11).
