Brazilian joint venture Iharabras has launched the first fungicidal seed treatment for the control of Sclerotinia sclerotiorum. It has introduced the suspension concentrate formulation, Certeza (thiophanate-methyl + fluazinam), this month for use on soybeans and kidney beans. Syngenta has entered into an agreement with the Canadian company, Innovotech (Edmonton, Alberta), to conduct trials on Innovotech’s bactericidal seed treatment, Agress (oxysilver nitrate), in North America. Innovotech conducted commercial-scale trials of the product in Canada last year (Agrow No 571, p 24). It is aimed at the control of bean blight (Xanthomonas campestris pv phaseoli) on beans, peas and soybeans.
France has granted a one-year approval extension for Syngenta's seed treatment insecticide, Cruiser (thiamethoxam), for the control of wireworms (Agriotes spp) in maize seed. The extension was granted by the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Bruno Le Maire, after receiving favourable opinion from the French food safety agency, the AFSSA, which is responsible for risk assessment. Syngenta opened an agricultural technology research facility in Chile in November. The Centro de Innovación Agrícola covers 4 ha and will host field trials of various Syngenta products. “The initiative will integrate the different areas of Syngenta’s business, including seeds, seed treatments, and crop protection products,” the company says. The facility will initially be used for testing products on maize, barley, wheat and beet.
