UN WHO field trials on Bayer CropScience’s insecticidal mosquito net, LifeNet, have confirmed that it exceeds the requirement of effectiveness after 20 washes. Tests in Tanzania, Benin and India showed that LifeNet was effective after 30 washes, with regeneration after washing within one day, Bayer points out. LifeNet incorporates the pyrethroid insecticide, deltamethrin, in polypropylene fibres. The UN WHO issued an interim recommendation earlier this year (Agrow No 615, p 28).

France has approved Syngenta's oilseed rape seed treatment insecticide/fungicide, Cruiser OSR (thiamethoxam 280 g/litre + fludioxonil 8 g/litre + metalaxyl-M 32.3 g/litre), reports newswire Agrisalon.com. The US agrochemical company, Gowan (Yuma, Arizona), has received approval for its fungicide, Gavel 75DF (zoxamide 8.3% + mancozeb 66.7%), in the state of California. It is for the control of late blight (Phytophthora infestans) and downy mildew on potatoes, tomatoes, grapevines and cucurbits. Gowan acquired the zoxamide business from Dow AgroSciences in 2008 (Agrow No 548, p 1). Gavel has been registered in other parts of the US since 2001.

Bayer CropScience has been granted registration in Greece for its broad-spectrum post-emergence herbicide, Laudis (tembotrione + isoxadifen-ethyl safener). It is a suspension concentrate formulation for thecontrol of grasses and broadleaf weeds on maize. The authorities have granted a three-year approval. BASF is to launch two new biorational pesticides in Brazil as it seeks to widen its offering in the sector, the company’s marketing director for crop protection in Latin America Fabio Del Sistia told the business newspaper, Valor Economico, this month.
